Perdue has acquired Pasturebird and is now the largest pastured poultry producer in the U.S. The news was soft launched on the Corporate Perdue website and was there for everyone to discover. However, there’s not been formal Perdue announcements in their PR channels even when faced with the reality that the news was public. It’s a curious position.
In the podcast episode, I lay out a timeline of events that point to this acquisition. There has been bad information about the timeline posted on social media. Contrary to the popular notion, this was not done in response to Covid (and that’s a point I forget to make on the episode.
I also discuss the questions:
- What’s it mean for pastured poultry?
- What’s it mean for you?
- What’s it mean for greenwashers?
- Should we be scared?
It’s undoubtedly clear that the pastured poultry market will change through this acquisition. The exact change is unknown, but producers should be open to change and look for ways to innovate.
